Because of their sculptural nature, burning is not uniform. The wax may slide towards the base, open new forms or alter the original silhouette.
This is not a defect but part of how the material behaves. Each piece evolves differently over time.
mulier studio pieces are conceived above all as sculptural objects. They can inhabit a space as form, or be lit and transformed by fire.
They do not begin from combustion as their main function, but from the presence of the object. Fire is understood as a possibility: a way of activating the piece and altering its state.
When it burns, the material transforms. The wax flows, the form changes and the silhouette evolves unpredictably. Each piece exists in two states: as a volume that remains, and as a process in transformation.
Even without being lit, the piece keeps its presence. The scent is integrated into the wax and is felt subtly in the space. It can be experienced as object, as fragrance or as transformation.
To use it, it is important to understand the material:
- Always place the piece on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts and cold surfaces (cold marble, metal).
- If the piece has been in a cold space, let it acclimatise at room temperature for several hours before lighting.
- Light with a long match or lighter, briefly, only on the wick.
- Keep lit for a maximum of 1-2 h sessions, always under supervision.
- Flame intensity can vary with the form; if needed, trim the wick.
- While burning, liquid wax may shift: this is part of the process.
- Inspect the piece during the first days after receiving it.
In pieces with very irregular forms, thin extremities or pronounced silhouettes, the flame melts wax only in a narrow vertical column under the wick. Parts outside that column may detach by gravity.
This is not a defect, it is how the material responds to fire. It happens with any sculptural candle of irregular form.
Over time, a slight whitish layer may appear on the surface. This phenomenon, known as blooming, is natural to vegetable wax and is caused by temperature changes. It does not affect the piece and can be wiped away gently if desired.
Each piece is unique. Small variations in form, colour or texture are part of its nature.
