We design objects that rethink what a candle can be. mulier studio is a creative project founded by Silvia Durán in Madrid. It emerged during the pandemic from a personal exploration with wax as a material, at a time of transition towards a more manual and physical practice.
What began as an intuitive, self-taught process became a language of its own.
At mulier, the candle is rethought as an object. Each piece is conceived as a volume that inhabits a space, where form, colour and scent are developed with intention. We do not begin from combustion as the main function, but from the presence of the object. It is not decoration. It is something you place, look at and decide on.
Fire does not disappear, but it becomes a possibility. When a piece is lit, the material enters transformation: the wax flows, the form changes and the object becomes ephemeral. That process is part of the language of each piece. Every mulier candle can live lit or unlit. Both ways are valid.
We work with vegetable wax, mainly soy, together with selected pigments and fragrances. Each model is developed from a hand-modelled original, later reproduced through moulds, always with manual intervention in the process. Because of its material nature, each piece shows slight variations. They are not defects. They are proof that someone made it.
The forms are simple, almost primitive. Compact volumes, matte surfaces, deep colours. Each model comes from a formal search that does not start from candle references but from sculpture, ceramics and ritual objects.
mulier stands between object and fire.
Between permanence and transformation.
Sculpture or fire. You decide.
